History of the Kalavinka Sunset Custom Build

Firstly, this unique bike is the product of a design collaboration between kznlzr and Tanabesan of Kalavinka Cycles, situated in Tokyo. Specifically, kznlzr contributed by revamping some of the Kalavinka logos. The company also collaborated on shirt designs; in return, he received the frame.

The top tube decal, which now adorns the bike, was originally designed for those shirts. Moreover, the lady figure on the seat tube was an intriguing find from the depths of the shop.  she was then simplified by removing some of the surrounding designs.

Next, the senjafuda on the fork carries significant personal meaning.  As it turns out, it includes kznlzr’s Japanese family name, along with the words ‘konjo,’ which translates to ‘spirit,’ and ‘dokyo.’ The translation means ‘courage’. Also, an omamori, which is a Japanese amulet, hangs from the seat and represents ‘victory’.

Furthermore, it is important to recognize that Akio Tanabe-san, the master builder of Kalavinka frames, worked closely with Will on the bike’s design. This added a layer of professional artistry to the project.  The project took inspiration from a Miami sunset; if you look closely, you might even spot an imagined white Lamborghini Countach cruising down Collins Ave.
